Melinda Kale of Bowling Green has been named the new Laser Cartridge Express’ supervisor. LCE is a division of Wood Lane Industries. LCE remanufactures laser cartridges for Lexmark, HP, Canon, Brother, Epson, Dell, Xerox, Samsung and Panasonic as well as selling generic, and new OEM printer cartridges for large and small business, government (LCE is the exclusive vendor of re-manufactured cartridges for the state of Ohio), and individual customers.
Kale has been on staff since May 2010. She was formerly employed with the Bowling Green Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and noted that the Bureau was a “satisfied customer of remanufactured cartridges.” In May 2010, Kale was hired as the outside sales representative for LCE. Her entrance into the LCE sales force was at a time when LCE was experiencing significant growth. In 2011, LCE exceeded $1 million dollars in gross sales for the fiscal year.
The business employs individuals living with a developmental disability. They are responsible for completing every step of the remanufacturing process for a customer’s printer cartridge. Staff oversees day-to-day operations and quality control that meets or exceeds industry standards. They work in office positions that include the receptionist, and assist staff on delivery and sales calls.
When the supervisor position opened, she applied and was offered the job. “I saw this as an opportunity to work with amazing and skilled people,” stated Kale. Wood Lane’s employment services coordinator Vic Gable noted that her skill set was a great fit to lead LCE. “Melinda is committed to the success, longevity, and viability of LCE, explained Gable. Her attention to detail and her previous business experience prepares her to lead LCE.”
Gable stated that the remanufacturing business is ever changing with new printers being introduced on a regular basis. “It is hard to project what the market will demand,” he said. LCE stays current on printers that are available on the market, Gable noted that LCE routinely adds or discontinues approximately 5 cartridge types each year based upon printers that are sold on the market.
Bio-Based cartridge now available – According to Gable, LCE has “hit the ground running with a bio-based cartridge.” LCE had already been a part of the green initiative due to the recycling and reusing of cartridges and materials. BioToner will fulfill the mandate for state agencies to meet the Green Initiative requirements and be available to other customers who wish to purchase eco-friendly products. According to Gable, it has already exceeded our original projections. “We’ve had an order (this month) for 300 BioToner cartridges.”
